Job Summary

The Custodian is responsible for the cleaning of the Tribe's Health Care facilities. Duties include vacuuming, floor care, washing windows, dusting and emptying trash. This also includes washing tables, cleaning restrooms, maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies, and cleaning patient rooms.

The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Essential Functions

  • Vacuum all carpeted floors.
  • Sani-wet mop all non-carpeted floors using a two (2) bucket system. Wheeled and non-wheeled movable units must be moved for cleaning.
  • Empty waste baskets, replace bags and place filled bags in dumpster. Clean/sanitize those garbage containers that have lift off lids.
  • Clean/sanitize all restrooms, replace bath tissue, soap, and paper towels.
  • Clean/sanitize; mirrors, door knobs, counters, and windowed door in all areas.
  • Clean/sanitize diaper dispenser and diaper changing table.
  • Clean/sanitize exam room tables, counters, sinks, chairs, tables, walls, surfaces and other objects; i.e. light/switches, clock faces, blood pressure glass face in rooms with a germicidal disinfecting agent or disinfecting towelette.
  • Clean/sanitize waiting room chairs, with a germicidal disinfecting agent, paying special attention to "hand-touch" areas like chair arms, doorknobs, reception counter tops and slide window, and phones, etc.
  • Clean/sanitize kitchen counter and table surfaces.
  • Feather dust; technical equipment surfaces, desk surfaces, bookcases, storage units and shelving areas.
  • Polish chrome fixtures/clean and sanitize all sinks.
  • Strip and wax floors every 6 months.
  • Operate (drive) a riding mechanized floor scrubber machine.
  • Clean Carpets and Schedule professional carpet cleaning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent


  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Ability to walk, Stand, Kneel, stoop, bend, sit, and reach with arms for long periods of time.


  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification, or within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License with non-SR22 insurance.

  • OSHA trained.
  • Biohazard disposal certified.
  • Blood borne pathogen training.
  • Previous Custodian experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people.
