Female Juvenile/Adult Probation Officer Only Recruitment (due to operational requirements)


Job Summary

Under general supervision the Female Juvenile/Adult Probation Officer performs a variety of probationary duties associated with the Kenaitze Tribal Court and the Wellness Court. The Female Juvenile/Adult Probation Officer will be responsible for conducting non-clinical assessments, including but not limited to motivational interviewing, and level of service inventory-revised (LSI-R) and will track client progress, recidivism rates and other performance measures.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares status reports as requested by the Tribal Court and State Court systems.
  • Attends the wellness interdisciplinary team staff meetings and Wellness Court hearings.
  • Communicates with community-based service providers to ascertain offender compliance with court-ordered services.
  • Coordinates with other jurisdictions and collaborative partner's to facilitate requests to distribute information in accordance with Tribal Court Processes.
  • Implement and maintain case files on participants to ensure client case management systems are up to date.
  • Supervises client probationary and wellness court requirements, including weekly check-ins; compliance with terms thereof; and filing contempt of court actions for violations of court orders.
  • Ensures completion and supervises random drug testing as well as home visits of juvenile/adult clients.
  • Coordinates programs regarding alternative sentencing, including the following areas: employment, education, community service, retaining, etc.
  • Arranges and monitors placement of probationers in various rehabilitation and/or treatment programs; may transport probationers as needed.
  • Must work with all phases of community in a confidential, non-judgmental manner.
  • Demonstrates cross cultural competency.

Drives KIT or Personal Vehicle: Use of personal or KIT vehicle for travel between tribal and community locations






Comments: Local travel is required, in-state and out-of-state may be required for training



  • Associates degree in related field
  • Progressively responsible work experience in a relevant field may be exchanged for the education requirements.


  • A minimum of two years' experience in a probationary or case management field
  • Experience writing reports and creating dashboards
  • Experience working within the juvenile/adult justice system


  • Must possess certification in Basic Life Support within three months of hire
  • Must be a minimum of 25 years old, possess valid Alaska Driver's License and remain insurable under KIT insurance policy

Special Skills

  • Knowledge of court intervention/diversion programs
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, and the public
  • Excellent communications, both verbal and written, for documenting written reports
  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native / American Indian organizations
