Billing Team Lead

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Revenue Cycle Administrator, the Billing Team Lead provides supervision for the day-to-day functions of the Billing team, which consists of reviewing records, proper coding and billing, A/R management, and quality assurance checks for all charges rendered by providers and clinicians. Provides technical support and training to new and existing team members on the Finance modules of the Electronic Health Record.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises the day-to-day functions of the Billing team which consists of charge capture, coding, billing, collections, denials and accounts receivable management, and monitors tasks to improve billing practices and increase reimbursement.
  • Performs coding and billing accuracy reviews, provides coding education to providers and health system staff, and provides quality assurance monitoring for the health system.
  • Follows established protocols, perform audits reviewing medical record documentation against billing to assess compliance with all laws, rules, policies and procedures, and regulations.
  • Identifies charge error rates, procedural weaknesses, system weaknesses and coding appropriateness. Prepare statistical reports on charge accuracy and medical record documentation for management review.
  • Responsible for end of month reports and processes.
  • Provides technical support and training to new and existing team members.
  • Interdepartmental collaboration of best practices to optimize reimbursement.
  • Assesses coding and billing staff knowledge of reimbursement and coding criteria. Recommends training opportunities as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain professional skills and knowledge through attendance at relevant conferences, seminars and other educational programs; participation in professional organizations; and review of current literature.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors of Administration or Bachelors of Science is required

Experience:

  • Minimum five years' progressive experience in healthcare coding and billing
  • Knowledge of medical billing procedures and claims submission process

Special Skills:

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and in writing with all levels of staff
  • Highly organized and focused on delivering results with experience in analysis and reporting
  • Understand and use three different code sets: CPT, HCPSC and ICD-10

Preferred

  • MBA or MHA
  • Experience working with Cerner, MyEvolv, and/or Dentrix
  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people
  • Knowledge and experience working within the Alaska Native health system
  • Experience as Billing team lead or similar position
