Job Summary

Assist lab in performing general functions including routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Assist radiology staff by maintaining and using equipment and supplies necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body on X-ray for diagnostic purposes.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood, and urine.
  • Performs blood and other tissue draws from patients, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood sample.
  • Prepares standard volumetric solutions and reagents need in testing.
  • Uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding skills to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.
  • Moves x-ray equipment into position and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance.
  • Positions patient on examine table and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area requested by medical provider.
  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do the job.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Lifting Requirements  

Light work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

Comments: Travel required for training purposes. 


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).



  • Experience performing X-ray images preferred.
  • Two years experience performing routine laboratory tests and blood draws.



  • Certification in phlebotomy.
  • Current CPR certification.


Special Skills

  • Knowledge of routine laboratory chemistry including chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes use of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, and production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in an ambulatory health care environment and to work effectively with management and clinical staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; organizational skills, attention to detail and able to handle pressures from people, and environment.
