Job Summary

The Director of Information Technology acts in a key leadership role within Kenaitze Indian Tribe whose primary responsibility is the oversight of KIT's information technology functions: computer and software support, network development and administration telecommunications, and cloud-based services.  The Director provides guidance to the Executive Director in planning information technology strategies, goals, initiatives and structure in alignment with KIT's values and vision.  The Director reports to the Executive Director and responds to budgetary and performance measures, achievement of goals and strategies, and results of monitoring functions.  This position works towards and encourages collaboration with KIT programs and outside agencies to carry out optimal customer care and support services.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for Information Technology (IT) strategic and annual planning
  • Responsible for KIT's computer & software support, to include purchasing new computers, printers and software, help desk functions, and maintenance of email
  • Responsible for network design, development & administration
  • Responsible for LAN/WAN equipment and maintenance
  • Responsible for telecommunications, to include set-up and maintenance of KIT's telephone system, and cell phone service
  • Responsible for IT security as Health Division Security Officer
  • Oversight of web and cloud-based services
  • Responsible for the development of policies and procedures for Tribal-wide use of IT
  • Responsible for IT budget
  • Responsible for efficient and effective utilization of IT resources
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and support to IT Staff
  • Collaborate with staff to identify education and training needs
  • Responsible for staying informed of IT trends, and recommending changes in IT systems to the Executive Director
  • Responsible to communicate to staff Tribal updates, events, and activities
  • Ensure IT staff follow workplace safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Comments: Travel is required between the Tribe's program locations, and travel for training will be required.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field



  • Five years of organizational information technology management and personnel management experience
  • Experience in the development of information technology strategies
  • Experience in budget management
  • Experience in policy and procedure development & implementation
  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people preferred



  • Alaska Driver's License


Special Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate information technology and training to non-technical managers and staff.
  • Must be service oriented, and able to design systems/procedures that assist staff.
  • Specialized IT certifications, e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator/Engineer (MCSA/MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), and CompTIA Security+) preferred
