Job Summary

Provide assistance to the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's Hunting, Fishing and Gathering Commission in carrying out the Fishery Plan and Curriculum. 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for Fishery permit, policy and procedure, and curriculum.
  • Responsible for weekly fish distribution and species reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for documentation of all cultural activities on a daily basis for use in final report to State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
  • Preparing designated location for the Tribe's fishery including driving stakes, setting the running lines, etc.
  • Maintaining and keeping in good operation all equipment needed in the operation of the fishery, including nets, buoys, lines, blocks, vehicles, traps, weirs, etc.
  • Keeping all sites neat and clean, safe as well as drug and alcohol free.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and Tribal members.
  • Provide education about the Tribe and Fishery to visitors, follow Tribe's curriculum.
  • Be a good representation of the Tribe, position is highly visible in community.
  • Follow the Tribe's policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Comments: Local travel required for shopping, 1 – 3 times per week.  In-state travel required for training, 1-2 times per year.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).   

Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience in fishing gear upkeep and repair, and in fish cleaning and preparation.

License/Certification

  • Current Alaska Drivers License with two years of experience and good driving record.

Special Skills       

  • Previous experience working at a fishery site preferred.
  • Able and willing to work unusual hours, determined by weather and tide.   
  • Ability to read and understand a tide- book, splicing, and knot tying.
